Biofeedback

Developing awareness of your body’s physiological responses helps you learn how to regulate them in your favor. Biofeedback trains you how to use your body’s signals to gain control over physiological reactions that are usually considered unconscious or automatic.

Biofeedback is the process of recording physiological signals (such as muscle tension or brain waves) and displaying them to the person being recorded in real time as they are being recorded. This information is used to help a person learn to change their physiology.

Association of Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback

The aim of biofeedback training is to help you establish control over your body’s responses independent of any biofeedback instrumentation. It teaches you to recognize the link between mind and body, and more specifically to recognize the role of specific thoughts and emotions in the onset of physical symptoms.

HeartMath LLC

I am a certified HeartMath clinician and specialize in heart rate variability biofeedback.

HeartMath Institute (HMI) has been studying the heart’s influence on well-being since 1991 and has developed reliable, scientifically-validated tools to help people reduce and avoid stress while experiencing increased peace, satisfaction and enjoyment in their lives.

At HMI, researchers are demonstrating that the messages the heart sends to the brain not only affect physiological regulation, but also can profoundly influence perception, emotions, behavior, performance and health. Biomedical research has revealed that the heart is not merely a simple pump but actually a highly complex and self-organized information-processing center. With each beat, the heart continuously communicates with the brain and body via the nervous system, hormonal system, bioelectromagnetic interactions and other pathways.
